Direct-Entry Pathway to Western’s Faculty of Education

Interested in becoming a teacher? French is an excellent way to open doors. Huron’s French Studies program offers a direct-entry pathway into Western’s Faculty of Education. Apply as early as your second year for entry to the Faculty of Education after completion of your Huron degree.

– Students who took French 3626G Cannes: The Festival in Context have previously gone on a field trip to Cannes, France, where they learned about the thirties and the art produced during this period of tensions and unrest.

French Studies (Major, Minor)

Broaden and deepen your knowledge of the French language and culture. Intensively study French grammar, linguistics, speech and so much more. Analyze some of the most major and influential French texts, while being taught the essential skills of literary analysis in a second language.

Sharpen your understanding of the major aspects of French and Francophone literatures and cultures, their particular histories as well as their relationship to the larger discipline of arts and humanities.

FRENCH PLACEMENT PATHWAYS

FRENCH PLACEMENT PATHWAYS

Here is how we determine which courses are the most appropriate entryway into our modules according to your background in the French language.

If you are an absolute beginner:

Enroll in: FRE1004 French Fundamentals (full-year course).

If you took High School French (Grades 11 & 12):

Enroll in: FRE1911A/B Oral French Through Film, Television and Podcasts, and in FRE1912F/G Written French Through Popular Fiction and Current Events

If you graduated from a French Immersion programme:

Complete our Placement Test at Test de placement- Programme de Français – Huron University College

A score of 85% or higher exempts you from first-year courses (FRE1911A/B, FRE1912F/G)

If you have DELF B2 Certification, or were educated in French, or are a Francophone:

Contact the French Studies coordinator for a first-year course exemption (FRE1911A/B, FRE1912F/G)
