How to Apply to Huron

The Huron admissions team takes a holistic approach when reviewing applicants for admission. This means that all application requirements are taken into consideration, ensuring the most suitable future Leaders with Heart are admitted on the strength of their application, not just their grades.

Personal Statement

A personal statement is an opportunity for you to support or enhance your application. It is your chance to tell us about the experiences that shaped who you are today and how your experience at Huron can launch your future. Outline how you can continue to be a role model and mentor and how you can give back to your community to build a better future. Huron is calling you to become a Leader with Heart, how will you answer?

Academic Requirements

All offers of admission to Huron require:

  • Successful completion of admission requirements;
  • Language proficiency (if required); and
  • Maintaining the conditions listed in the Offer of Acceptance.

Through Huron’s holistic approach to admissions, we review supplemental information and admit students based on a variety of contributing factors, not just their academic transcript. Mature Students:

Applicants who do not meet the minimum academic requirements for admission to the university may be eligible for consideration as a mature student. Click here for requirements.

Returning Students:

Applicants who took a leave from studies at Huron or would like to return to take courses and are in good academic standing can contact Academic Advising and request to be reactivated as a student.

Applicants seeking readmission to Huron following withdrawal for unsatisfactory academic standing will need to complete a regular application through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre. In addition to completing an application through OUAC, students will need to complete the Reconsideration of Admission form.

If granted readmission, you may register for a session that commences no earlier than one calendar year (12 months) from the time of withdrawal.

English Language Proficiency

If you have not studied for a minimum of four years (including the final year) in an institution where the language of instruction is English, you are required to submit a satisfactory English Language Proficiency test score. Huron requires one of the following:

IELTS

Minimum overall score: 6.5

No section less than: 6.0

TOEFL (iBT)

Minimum overall score: 83

No section less than: 20

CAEL

Minimum overall score: 60

No section less than: 60

PTE ACADEMIC

Minimum overall score: 58

No section less than: 56

DUOLINGO

Minimum overall score: 115

No section less than: 100

Students who do not meet Huron’s English language requirement but are academically admissible will automatically be admitted into an Academic English program.

THE ENGLISH BOOST PROGRAM

Students who qualify take ESL in July and August before starting full-time at Huron in September.

ACADEMIC ENGLISH PROGRAM

After successful completion of the High Advanced Level, students begin full-time studies at Huron. The length of program is dependent on English language proficiency.

Huron offers students conditional acceptance into undergraduate studies pending final completion of an approved language program. Students who successfully complete the language program will not have to provide an English Language Proficiency test examination score.

Huron offers a variety of programs within Arts, Business — Management & Organizational Studies, and Social Sciences. At the time of application, you will be asked to indicate which program area you are interested in; however, all first-year students start in a general program so that you have the opportunity to explore new courses and interests.

APPLICATIONS OPEN SEPTEMBER 21

Go to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website at ouac.on.ca. Huron is located within Western University on the website. Although program interest can be added to your applications, Huron admits students to a general first year. You only need to apply to a program once.

Huron OUAC Codes:

EHD = Management & Organizational Studies programs
EHO = Social Science programs
EHA = Arts programs

Is Huron the only university you’re applying to in Ontario?

You may be eligible to apply using Huron’s Internal Application. Do not use this application if you have already applied using the OUAC website.

Applicants applying for January term should also use the Internal Application to apply to Huron.

Stay Connected

SEND TRANSCRIPTS AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Once Huron has received your application, Huron will send you an email inviting you to set up your Huron Connect Application Portal. The Huron Connect Application Portal is where you upload transcripts and documents, submit your personal statement, check your application status and apply for entrance scholarships. If you’ve arranged to have your transcript sent externally, Huron’s Admissions team will upload it directly to the Portal on your behalf.

Please note that the process may take a few business days before Huron receives your application from the OUAC.
