Convocation Award Competitions

Huron celebrates students’ academic excellence, dedication to civic engagement and demonstration of exceptional character. Our scholarships and awards program, supported by generous community members, empowers our university to reward students for their tireless efforts – within and beyond the classroom.

The David H. M. Stewart Memorial Award

Eligibility:  Established by the friends and family of the late David H.M. Stewart, a former member of Huron’s Executive Board who died in 1988, this Award is presented at Spring Convocation to the graduating student with the highest overall achievement. The Award is given on the basis of high academic performance combined with outstanding contributions through extra-curricular activities to Huron and Western University.

The Neil S. Abbott Memorial Award

Eligibility: Established in 2022 in memory of the late Neil S. Abbott, Class of 1987, the Neil S. Abbott Memorial Award will be presented annually to a graduating Huron student who has completed an Honours program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Science. Selection will be based on high academic achievement, demonstrated leadership at Huron, Western, and in the wider community, and students’ contributions in serving as a mentor to their classmates and peers.  The Award will be announced annually at Convocation.

Please fill out the form below and provide all the necessary details and examples to explain why you would be an ideal candidate for The Neil S. Abbott Memorial Award. Note that in addition to self-nominating, you must provide at least one reference (from a faculty member, community member, or other individual) confirming your suitability for this award. The reference does not need to be formal but must include details on why you meet the award criteria.
