Scholarships, Bursaries & Grants

Canadian applicants with competitive final admission averages will be awarded with an Entrance Scholarship. Final admission average is calculated using admission requirements (including any required courses for the program to which the student has applied) for courses completed.

International high school applicants who are completing high school in Canada, with a valid study permit, will be awarded Huron’s new Continue in Canada Scholarship.

The scholarship includes:

• $40,000 scholarship over four years ($10,000 per year)
• $1,000 to use toward an international academic experience in subsequent years

Please note: You must be starting your undergraduate studies at Huron in September 2026 to be eligible.

International applicants are automatically assessed for a one-time, non-renewable Entrance Scholarship, based on their academic results and personal statement.

Qualifying students will be awarded $1,000 to $15,000 in first year. They will also receive an additional $1,000 to use toward an international academic experience in subsequent years.

Please note: You must be starting your undergraduate studies at Huron in September 2026 to be eligible.

The Alberta Scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award given to a student entering Huron from an Alberta high school with the highest entering grade. The scholarship is funded by the Pirie Foundation and is valued at $2,500.00.

The Hellmuth Scholarship is awarded to an incoming student with a mid-year average of 90% or higher (as calculated by Huron) and an exceptional record of extracurricular and community involvement, as well as demonstrated passion for student life through community leadership, volunteer service, passion for arts, athletics etc.

The Nation Builder Program is a flagship enrichment program at Huron for high-potential, aspiring leaders who are curious about what drives Canada’s prosperity, interested in sharpening their analytical skills, and motivated to graduate as innovative thinkers and doers who can build and deliver in any field they choose.

The Nation Builder Scholarship is awarded to an incoming student with a mid-year average of 90% or higher (as calculated by Huron) and an exceptional record of extracurricular and community involvement, as well as demonstrated passion for student life through community leadership, volunteer service, passion for arts, athletics etc.

The International Presidential Scholarship (IPS) is awarded to an incoming international student with a mid-year average of 90% or higher (as calculated by Huron) and an exceptional record of extracurricular and community involvement and a passion to positively contribute to global society.

Awarded to entering international students who have demonstrated resilience and perseverance in the face of significant adversity. Students will be selected based on demonstrated resilience and determination, academic potential and achievements, and community involvement and future aspirations. Preference to students coming directly from challenging environments overseas. Recipients are encouraged to be campus leaders and become active participants within the Weston International Scholars Program network of recipients.

Huron is proud to be one of the only universities in Canada to offer international students aid on the basis of financial need, rather than just merit alone. We believe the transformative, world-class education at Huron should be accessible to all students who possess the potential and talent to meet our admission standards, while minimizing financial barriers to deserving students as much as possible.

Huron International Financial Aid (HIFA) is designed for students who are still facing challenges in affording a Huron education, despite any International Entrance Scholarship which they may have received. It allows students who can demonstrate this financial need, to be considered for additional financial aid by submitting the HIFA application and supporting documents.

The Gary Barnes Pre-Business Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student registered at Huron who is passionate about business and is pursuing a pre-Ivey program. Applicants that have been offered AEO status from Ivey and demonstrate financial will be considered.

The KPMG Diversity & Inclusion Award is presented annually to three full-time Huron students entering the BMOS program at Huron University. Preference will be given to a Black, Indigenous, Person of Colour (BIPOC), and/or LGBTQIA2S+ student. This award will be given based on demonstrated financial need and academic excellence.

The Horatio Alger Scholar Waugh Family Award will be presented to a Horatio Alger Scholar who is entering full-time studies at Huron University. This award reflects the Foundation’s longstanding support and engagement with Huron and the Horatio Alger Association of Canada.

The Scotiabank Scholarship is awarded to qualifying students in the Scotiabank Scholars Program.

Requirements:

Scotiabank and Huron share a mission to make higher education accessible to all. With this goal in mind, the Scotiabank Scholars Program and the accompanying scholarship is available to qualified students that are part of ay one of the following communities:

• Minoritized
• Indigenous
• Low-income
• First-generation
• Newcomer to Canada

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or protected persons
• Must be entering Huron directly from high school and applying for their first undergraduate degree
• Must meet Huron University’s entrance requirements (minimum average of 75%).

The Scotiabank Scholarship is renewable for up to four years, provided you maintain a minimum average to continue in your program, taking at least 4.0 credits each year prior. Tuition and fees are only covered during the Fall/Winter terms for up to four years.

Step 1 – Be nominated by your Guidance Counsellor in Grade 11 for the Scotiabank Scholars program

Step 2 – Continue Scotiabank Scholars program in Grade 12 and apply to Huron

Step 3 – Complete the Scotiabank Scholarship Application

Established in 2005 in memory of Mrs. Imogene Apps, a wonderful and devoted friend in the Huron community, the Imogene Apps Entrance Scholarship provides financial assistance to a first-year student studying liberal arts from Ontario who qualifies on the basis of family income and who embodies the spirit of volunteerism and community service. Mrs. Apps was a dedicated volunteer for many causes.

Consistent with these principles, the Wes Hall Student Support Fund will help high-potential students overcome barriers, accelerate their academic, professional, and leadership development, and equip these future leaders to make a difference in their organizations, in their communities, and beyond.

The SABIS Global Leader with Heart Award is a tuition reduction agreement granted to a student studying at an eligible SABIS school and applying to Huron for their first undergraduate degree.

Eligibility:

• Student must be applying to Huron as their first undergraduate degree program
• Student must be studying at an eligible SABIS school
• Student must demonstrate academic excellence with a 90% or higher (as calculated by Huron)
• Student must demonstrate extracurricular involvement

TWO AVAILABLE: Two two-year renewable scholarships are awarded annually, one each to a male and female full-time Huron student who is registered on a Western Varsity Athletic team.

Value: Up to $4,500 per year

Eligibility: This scholarship competition is open to all full-time Huron students who are registered on a Western Varsity Athletic team.

Senior students entering Years 2-4 must be registered in a full-time program at Huron (5.0 courses taken during the regular academic year – September to April); have achieved a 70.0% or better average in their previous year of study; and be registered on a university-level, intercollegiate athletic team at Western University.

The Frank Holmes Academic Athlete Scholarship can be renewed for an additional year for full-time Huron students, provided the recipient maintains an average of 80.0% or better in 5.0 courses taken during the regular academic year (September to April), and is registered on a Western Varsity Athletic team.

Awarded to a full-time registered second, third or fourth-year Huron student who has achieved 80% or more in his or her previous year of study and who has also demonstrated financial need based on criteria established by Huron and administered by its Financial Aid office. The successful student will be pursuing an Honours Specialization leading to a degree either in Economics or in Management and Organizational Studies.

This scholarship is awarded solely on academic excellence. No application is required. The Student Awards Committee will determine the appropriate recipients. The recipients will receive a notification by email.

Awarded to the student who achieves the highest average in second year (except for holders of National or Hellmuth Scholarships).

This scholarship is awarded solely on academic excellence. No application is required. The Student Awards Committee will determine the appropriate recipients. The recipients will receive a notification by email.

Value: $500

Established in 1998, this scholarship is awarded to a senior student at Huron with priority given to students with a learning disability and the highest average (minimum 75%) over four full courses in the previous year of study. If no student with a learning disability qualifies for the scholarship, it will be awarded to a senior student of high academic standing who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to community service. The grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Foster, Scott Foster graduated from Huron in 2001.

Awarded to the student with the highest first-year average entering second year and majoring in History (not receiving a National or Hellmuth Scholarship).  This scholarship is renewable for up to two years, provided the recipient achieves an average of 75% or higher in 5.0 courses.

This scholarship is awarded solely on academic excellence. No application is required. The Student Awards Committee will determine the appropriate recipients. The recipients will receive a notification by email.

This scholarship was established in memory of Frank P. Leahy, a long-time supporter of Huron and member of the Executive Board between 1972 – 1980.  Mr. Leahy passed away in 1980. He is the father of Mary Margaret (Leahy) Koreen.  The Frank P. Leahy Second-Year Scholarship is for the Huron student (excepting Hellmuth Scholarship students) entering year two who had the highest average in year one and who had earned a renewable scholarship in his or her first year.

This scholarship is awarded solely on academic excellence. No application is required. The Student Awards Committee will determine the appropriate recipients. The recipients will receive a notification by email.

Three scholarships are awarded to senior students judged according to the following areas: 1) academic achievement; 2) involvement in student life at Huron University College and /or Western University; 3) volunteer or community service; 4) commitment to athletics or the arts; 5) Huron citizenship. This scholarship competition is open to full-time Huron students and entering second, third, and fourth years in 2019-2020, with an 80% average or better.

Funded in the Great Minds, Great Hearts Capital Campaign by student contributions from 1999 to 2003.

This Award was established in 2001 by friends, family and students in memory of Jordan Propas, who died during his second year at Huron University College. Jordan thrived at Huron and was a full participant in the life of the Huron community and indeed in life in general. The Award was established to honour Jordan’s character and celebrate the importance of fully participating in Huron life, which he so embodied. The Award is given to two full-time second, third or fourth year undergraduate Huron students with a minimum 70% average, who have made a substantial contributions to the life of the Huron community through their supportive interaction with others and by participating in Huron programs and activities. Terence E. and Alice Jean Finlay Award for Community Leadership celebrates the remarkable contributions of Terry and AJ to the communities they have served with such distinction throughout their lives. Terry had both arts and theology degrees from Huron (1959 and 1962), and AJ is a Western grad (1962). The Award in their name is made each year to two Huron undergraduate arts students in their second, third or fourth years of study who, while at Huron, have become engaged in volunteer service to the broader community and exemplify the values of outreach, compassion and concern for others which the Finlays have personified in their own lives. The Seanna and Nicole Strongman Memorial Scholarships recognize “all round” student achievement, in additional to providing financial assistance at a time when that support is more important than ever.

The scholarships are awarded to students who, on the completion of their first, second or third year of study, are judged highest in the following five equally weighted categories: 1) academic achievement; 2) Huron citizenship; 3) community service; 4) involvement in athletics and the arts; 5) leadership.

To apply, you must be a full-time Huron student returning to Huron in 2019-2020. For senior scholarships, first-class standing is defined as a minimum average of 80% on no less than the equivalent of five full-year courses taken between September and April.

The endowment in the Vancouver Foundation was established in 1993 by the Strongman family in the names of their daughters, Seanna and Nicole, who, at the ages of 15 and 11 respectively, died tragically on December 31, 1982, in a motor vehicle accident. Their father, Mr. W. Gerald Strongman graduated from Huron in 1963, and was later appointed National Chairperson of the Huron College Parents’ Association. The scholarships provide a meaningful tribute to the memory of Seanna and Nicole.

Awarded to two students entering the third year of an Honours program in History, Economics, or Combined Honours History or Economics, who have achieved minimum 80% average in second year. Renewable for one year if recipient maintains a minimum average of 80% in 5.0 courses, and remains in an Honours program.

Awarded to two students entering a third year of an Honours program in English, Philosophy, or Combined Honours English or Philosophy, who have achieved minimum 80% average in second year. Renewable for one year if recipient maintains a minimum average of 80% in 5.0 courses, and remains in an Honours program.

Awarded to the student entering the third year of any Honours or Combined Honours program, with highest first-class standing in second year, and with some Economics courses on her/his record.

This scholarship is awarded solely on academic excellence. No application is required. The Student Awards Committee will determine the appropriate recipients. The recipients will receive a notification by email.

Awarded to three DUFE/Huron 2+2 students entering Year 3 of the 2+2 Program in Honours Economics.  This scholarship is renewable for one year, provided the recipients achieve a minimum average of 80%.  Recipients are selected based on criteria determined by DUFE.

The scholarship is awarded to a fourth-year student registered full-time at Huron who has maintained a minimum B average in their second and third years, and whose career at Huron has been marked by a conspicuous dedication to the value of openness, the acceptance of difference, and the promotion of diversity in Canadian society. Dr. Don Melady, a Huron alumnus, class of 1981, and his husband Mr. Rowley Mossop, established this scholarship in 2004 on the occasion of their marriage.

Established by the friends and family of the late David H.M. Stewart, a former member of Huron’s Executive Board who died in 1988, this Award is presented at Spring Convocation to the graduating student with the highest overall achievement. The Award is given on the basis of high academic performance combined with outstanding contributions through extra-curricular activities to Huron and Western University.

The Award is given to two full-time second, third or fourth year undergraduate Huron students with a minimum 70% average, who have made a substantial contributions to the life of the Huron community through their supportive interaction with others and by participating in Huron programs and activities. Friends and family established this scholarship in 1992 in honour of Kevin Cunliffe (1969-1991), a Combined Honors History and Political Science student at the time of his death. It is awarded to a non-scholarship full-time Huron student entering the fourth year of an Honors program at Huron. The recipient will have shown a sustained improvement in overall academic performance over his or her previous three years of university study and have contributed actively to enhancing the student community life of Huron.

Awarded to a Management and Organizational Studies student entering fourth year, with first-class standing in third year of the MOS program.

This scholarship is awarded solely on academic excellence. No application is required. The Student Awards Committee will determine the appropriate recipients. The recipients will receive a notification by email.

There are three scholarships offered in the program, for second, third and fourth year students respectively. The Seanna and Nicole Strongman Memorial Scholarships recognize “all round” student achievement, in additional to providing financial assistance at a time when that support is more important than ever.

The scholarships are awarded to students who, on the completion of their first, second or third year of study, are judged highest in the following five equally weighted categories: 1) academic achievement; 2) Huron citizenship; 3) community service; 4) involvement in athletics and the arts; 5) leadership.

To apply, you must be a full-time Huron student returning to Huron in 2019-2020. For senior scholarships, first-class standing is defined as a minimum average of 80% on no less than the equivalent of five full-year courses taken between September and April.

The endowment in the Vancouver Foundation was established in 1993 by the Strongman family in the names of their daughters, Seanna and Nicole, who, at the ages of 15 and 11 respectively, died tragically on December 31, 1982, in a motor vehicle accident. Their father, Mr. W. Gerald Strongman graduated from Huron in 1963, and was later appointed National Chairperson of the Huron College Parents’ Association. The scholarships provide a meaningful tribute to the memory of Seanna and Nicole.

Value: $500

Established in 1998, this scholarship is awarded to a senior student at Huron with priority given to students with a learning disability and the highest average (minimum 75%) over four full courses in the previous year of study. If no student with a learning disability qualifies for the scholarship, it will be awarded to a senior student of high academic standing who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to community service. The grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Foster, Scott Foster graduated from Huron in 2001.
