LONDON, ON - In a vibrant celebration of new beginnings, Huron University hosted its inaugural Commencement Ceremony for the class of 2028 first-year students, marking a unique and warm-hearted welcome to the campus community. The event, held in the theatre earlier this week, highlighted Huron’s commitment to creating a supportive and engaging environment for its newest members.

This year, the ceremony was even more impactful as Huron welcomed its largest first year class to date -with over 700 first year students. Dr. Barry Craig, President of Huron, shared his welcoming message with a smile from ear to ear, saying “I couldn’t be prouder of this wonderful institution”.

In his address, Dr. Barry Craig shared a powerful message about the importance of Leadership with Heart and embracing the legacy of Huron.

The three important words that I have to share with you today are: can, if, and will. You really can be Leaders with Heart, people that inspire others, people that cause other people to do the right thing. You can if you embrace the challenge. That won’t happen externally. No one can make you into a kind person. And if you embrace this challenge, you will change the world. You will leave this place better, smarter, stronger, and more encouraged to make the changes we need in society.

The ceremony continued with a sense of anticipation and excitement as students gathered to receive their Huron pins, a symbol of their new journey.

Each student was then invited to inscribe their name in Huron’s book of signatures, a cherished tradition at Huron. This book, which will become a historical record of each incoming class, serves as a testament to the students' commitment to their academic and personal journeys at Huron as Leaders with Heart. This personal touch emphasizes Huron’s approach to fostering a close-knit community with individualized supports.
