Huron Launches New Major in China Studies to address Growing Interest and Diversity in Asian Studies
London, ON - One of the first of its kind in Canada, Huron University is proud to launch a new major in China Studies as part of the university’s Chinese, Japanese and East Asia Studies program.
Students now have the opportunity to refine their passion for China Studies as they explore Chinese literature, culture, language, and society through this exciting new major.
“With its focus on China Studies, the program is distinct in fostering a critical understanding of East-West and intra-Asian exchanges from intercultural perspectives and inspiring students to be ‘Leaders with Heart’ with a global vision.” says Dr. Yan Lu, Coordinator of the Chinese program. As part of the major, “students may engage in a fascinating immersive experience in China through exchange programs and faculty-led field trips” she adds.
By offering a diverse range of immersive learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, Huron students are provided with the education and tools to become outstanding, career-ready, global citizens – leaving a positive impact no matter which path they pursue after their undergrad, no matter where in the world.
“We have been working on this new major for several years. I am so excited to see its launch as one of the first of its kind in Canada. As our students become increasingly diverse, the program maps out tailored pathways for students who may or may not speak Chinese via a vibrant, interdisciplinary curriculum,” says Dr. Lu.
Huron is the only liberal arts university in Canada that offers a comprehensive Chinese program on the study of Chinese language, literature, and culture, offering students a truly unique learning experience. It is open to students with a range of language competency and understanding of Chinese culture and background.
Starting in September 2024, students will be able to officially begin in the China Studies major. To learn more, please click here.
