LONDON, ON – Huron University and Scotiabank are celebrating the first-ever class of Scotiabank Career Accelerator Program (CAP) graduates.

The 12 Scotiabank CAP graduates are the first to receive the designation, which signals to potential employers that the applicant has completed a rigorous training program and is well-positioned to be a leader in the workplace.

In November 2021, Huron and Scotiabank officially launched Scotiabank CAP, an elite program for Huron students designed to help them build their career confidence and distinguish themselves as emerging leaders. The program, which can be completed over the course of a four-year degree, sees students participate in training and gain real-world experience through mentoring, paid internships and a series of specially designed professional development workshops.

In the first year of the program, Huron students participated in 5 workshops facilitated by industry experts from Scotiabank, Huron’s Board of Governors, and Huron’s Faculty of Theology providing insight the demands in today’s workforce, and internships across sectors, including Public Relations, Human Resources, and business.

A highlight of the program was An Afternoon on Bay Street. In May, Scotiabank hosted CAP participants at Scotiabank Plaza for an afternoon of professional development, featuring presentations, fireside chats, and networking opportunities with high level executives at Scotiabank. A special thanks for Scotiabank CEO Brian Porter for meeting with students.

The first year of Scotiabank CAP was a huge success with 50 students enrolling in the program, including 12 in their fourth-year of study. Each of the fourth-year students completed the requirements of the program and received their degree upon graduation.

“Participating in this program has given me the security and knowledge that I have a wide variety of skills, both hard and soft, that I can bring to any career path that I may choose,” said Annie Boss, Scotiabank CAP graduate, Class of ’22. “My time in the Scotiabank CAP program has definitely improved my self-confidence enough that I am feeling ready to take that next step and move to the higher academic level.”

“The effects of the CAP program have already rippled because I’m working with Scotiabank right now,” said Yuvraj Sachdeva, Scotiabank CAP graduate, Class of ’22. “Scotiabank CAP program basically helped me get my foot in the door and it helped me get into that industry. So it has been very fruitful.”

Next year, Huron will increase enrollment in the program of 100 students. Capacity will increase each year until it reaches capacity of 200.
