Japanese Language Proficiency Test


Huron University is honoured to host the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) in collaboration with the Japan Foundation.

Application Period

September 2, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. to September 26, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Registration will close once the seats are filled. Online applications only.

To apply, you must have given consent to all the items contained in the JLPT Test Guide, including the items concerning the handling of personal information.

Upon completing your application and payment, you will receive a voucher by October 20th. If you have not received your voucher after this date, please contact us.

Fees

$100 CAD (non-refundable) for all levels (N1-N5) and ages. *

No refund will be accepted if you miss the test due to uncontrollable circumstances, including illness, travel difficulties, or border closures.

 

Eligibility

The JLPT is open to learners of Japanese as a foreign language. This test is not designed for native speakers of Japanese.

 

Special Testing Accommodations

If you require special accommodations for the test, please complete the following by September 11, 2025. After this deadline, if you wish to request special testing accommodations, please contact jlpt@huron.uwo.ca before you apply.

On Test Day

What to Bring

  • Government-issued Photo ID (i.e. passport, driver’s license, health card with photo)
  • Test Voucher
  • Medium-Soft No. 2 or HB Pencils (no pens)
  • Eraser

Schedule

For listening parts of the tests, absolutely no late entries into the test rooms are allowed. For all other parts, no entry is allowed ten minutes after the start.

Regulations

  • Please bring one piece of photo ID with you to the examination.
  • Please bring a copy of your test voucher with you to the examination.
  • The back side of the test voucher must be blank (for example, you cannot print it on the back of used paper)
  • There can be no writing, etc., anywhere on the test voucher (for example, you cannot write the directions to the test site, etc., on it)
  • If a mobile phone, watch alarm or other device makes a sound or vibrates during the test time, the owner of the device shall be identified and treated with misconduct.
  • Academic dishonesty will result in immediate DISQUALIFICATION.
  • To prevent cheating, the use of mobile phones (and all other devices with photographing and communication functions) is not permitted until the end of the test, including during breaks. Examinees must be instructed to turn off their devices until the test ends. Examinees are not allowed to contact others outside, even during breaks, except in an emergency. If there is an urgent need to use a mobile phone, the following is required:
    (1) Obtain permission from the person in charge at the test site head office.
    (2) The mobile phone must be used at the test site head office (in the presence of the person in charge standing by). Additionally, if any examinees use a mobile phone in the test room or hallway during breaks, it will be considered an act of misconduct.

 

Results

Scores will be available online approximately 3 months after the test has been written. Scores will only be available if, during the application, test takers chose an 8 digit password of their own creation.

The JLPT has been offered by The Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) since 1984 as a reliable means to evaluate and certify the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. In 2024, there were approximately 1.72 million applicants worldwide, the largest number ever recorded.
