FAQ

Parking Permit FAQ

When can I purchase a Huron Parking Permit?

Parking permits will be available for purchase on Thursday, July 4, 2024, after 12:00 p.m. (noon). Permits will be available until August 1st, 2024, or until capacity is reached. A waitlist will be made available after that point.

I completed my application, does this mean I have secured a parking permit?

If you applied and were approved for parking when applications opened in July, you will have 30 days from the date your application was submitted to submit payment to secure your parking permit.

Can you this question in as well, after the third question (Once i pay for my parking permit, how long until I receive a response?”). I missed the 30 day deadline to pay for my parking permit. Do I still have a parking pass?

All parking applications must be paid within 30 days following the initial application date to secure parking. For students who applied in July, the parking office will reach out to those who have not completed payment, prior to the deadline. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure payment is made and received by Huron University.

If we do not receive payment within 30 days of the submission of your application, and there has been no communication between the parking office and the applicant, the pass will be released. At this time you will not have a parking pass and will be required to reapply if passes are available or add your name to the waitlist.

Students who applied to the waitlist in August will only have 24 hours to pay for their parking permit once the approval email is sent. If payment is not received within 24 hours, your application is marked as abandoned and the permit is offered to someone else.

Once I pay for my parking permit, how long until I receive a response?

Instantly.  You should receive a “Thank you” notice once you have completed the payment link if paying by credit card.  Your bank should provide you with proof of payment should you choose to pay by online banking.

Can I pay in person for my parking permit?

No, all parking must be paid for via the link emailed to you once your application is approved. If there is a concern with this, please reach out to the Parking Office at parking@huron.uwo.ca

When can I pick up my parking permit?

Once the parking office has received notice from Huron’s Accounting department that your payment has been applied to parking, you will receive an email from the parking office confirming that you have a permit guaranteed, as well as pickup instructions. Permits will be available for pick up at the Huron mailroom/parking office as of Tuesday, August 27, 2024, or after you have received the above stated email, whichever is latest.

What are the permit pick-up hours?

Tuesday, August 27th – Friday, August 30th, 9:30 a.m . – 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday, September 3rd – Friday, September 6th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Normal student drop in ours for this office of 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. will resume as of Monday, September 9, 2024

Who can purchase a Huron University parking permit?

At this time we are only accepting parking applications for registered Huron University students.

Note: A “registered Huron University student” is a student registered full time in Huron courses.

I have multiple vehicles. How do I register my vehicle?

You are permitted to have two vehicles registered under your name on your parking permit. Only one registered vehicle is permitted to be parked in the lot at a time. If both vehicles are found parked in the lot at the same time you can be ticketed.  Repeat offences can be ticketed, towed and/or lose parking privileges indefinitely without reimbursement of parking payment.

You cannot share your parking permit or register a friend’s vehicle on your account. If you are found sharing your parking permit, your parking permit will be terminated, and no refund will be issued.

Can I share my parking permit?

No. The permit holder is the only person with any rights to parking and bears all the responsibility for the vehicle while parked on Huron’s property.  Please review the Terms and Conditions (PDF) for additional information.

Can I transfer my parking permit?

Yes, parking permits can be transferred provided the permit goes to an active Huron Student approved by the Huron parking office. There is a $40 transfer fee required to be paid to the Huron Parking Office.

I got a parking permit, but I no longer require it. Can I get a refund?

Annual or School parking permits can be canceled for a pro-rated refund by November 30, 2024, based on usage. Refunds are not available after this date.

I require accessible parking; how can I arrange this?

Huron provides accessible parking for those with valid accessible parking permits from the Ontario government. Accessible parking is available for all types of parking on campus: Pay and Display, Tour/Reserved, and gated lots. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

All the accessible parking spaces are full, what should I do?

If all accessible parking spots are full, please visit or contact our Parking Office at parking@huron.uwo.ca

Vehicle Information FAQ

I need to change my license plate; how can I do that?

You can change your license plate by sending an email to parking@huron.uwo.ca. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to update the parking office with any changes to your vehicle prior to your arrival on campus. Failure to update the parking office can result in a parking ticket, which will be your responsibility to handle.

My vehicle was damaged in the lot, what can I do?

Sorry to hear this happened. Losses, damage and/or injuries should be reported to Western Special Constable Service. Huron University is not responsible for any loss, injury, or damage to persons, equipment and/or motor vehicles, including contents, however caused.

How do you know only one of my registered vehicles is parked in the lot?

Vehicle license plate recognition will be used for validating permit holders in the lot.

White Parking Card and Parking Lot FAQ

How does my parking card work?

From Western Road, turn west and head to the end of Burnlea Walk.  Just before the gate that will be directly ahead of you, turn right into Huron’s Gated Parking Lot. There is a black pin pad where you will tap your white card. Once you tap your card, the gate will open and you are welcome to park in any standard, unmarked space. Please note, the Tour and Reserved marked spaces are not eligible spots for permit holders. Parking here may result in a ticket, which will be the responsibility of the permit holder.

My white parking card isn’t working, what should I do?

If you find your parking card is not working at the entrance to the parking lot, you must come to the parking office to have the issue reviewed. You will not be given access to the parking lot.

Please use the available Pay and Display spaces, pay for parking, and come to the Huron Parking Office. If there is a defect or malfunction with the card registered to your account and under your name, we will replace your card and reimburse you for the Pay and Display parking.

We will require your student card to verify the information on your account.

I forgot my white gate card but I have a parking pass, can I be let into the lot?

No, the support staff available via the ‘call’ button cannot verify that you are a Huron Student or if you own a valid parking permit for the Huron University parking lot. You have two options, you can use the available Pay and Display lots at your own expense, or, you can purchase a new white gate card at the parking office for $40, during business hours.

I lost my white gate card, what do I do?

If you lose the white gate card for any reason, including theft, it is $40 to replace. Please report any lost or stolen cards to the parking office at your earliest convenience so it can be removed from our system.

I let the car in front of me into the lot, because their card was not working, and now I cannot get in. What can I do?

Your card has been locked out of the system, and you will need to go to the Huron Parking Office to get it unlocked. Under the Terms and Conditions, you signed and agreed that the vehicle permit assigned to you will be utilized only for the vehicle(s) registered under your vehicle permit. Allowing another vehicle(s) into the gated lot violates this agreement. A $40 fee is required to unlock your parking permit.

Continued violations can have you ticketed, your vehicle towed and/or your parking privileges revoked indefinitely without any reimbursement of parking payment.

I cannot find a parking spot and I have a parking permit. What should I do?

Please be aware that a parking permit does not guarantee you a parking space. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. If you are unable to find parking in the designated lot, please wait or use an available pay and display lot at your own expense.

There is no guarantee of availability, particularly during peak demand periods. We highly recommend planning your day and arriving ahead of scheduled classes and meetings to ensure you can find a parking spot.

Any fines received for parking illegally will be your responsibility.

Does Huron offer complimentary parking?

Yes, complimentary parking is offered on weekends beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. and ending on Monday morning at 3:00 a.m.

Student and Guest Parking FAQ

I have a parking permit, what lot can I park in?

Huron students with a valid parking permit can park in the South parking lot, located behind the Burnlea Hall Residence.

Do you have EV charging stations?

Huron currently offers two Electric Vehicle Charging Stations which are located next to our Pay and Display parking lot. Any vehicle that requires a charging station can utilize the spaces during charging. Our Policies and Procedures for these spaces are:

  • Huron EV charging stations are for electric vehicles only that bear the appropriate license plate
  • Electric vehicles must be actively charging while occupying the space. Vehicles must be moved when charging is complete. This is not a parking spot.
  • The EV charging station spaces cannot be used for loading and unloading, temporary parking or as a pick-up or drop-off area.
  • Overnight parking is not permitted in the EV charging station spaces.
  • Unauthorized vehicles parked in the EV charging station or failure to comply with campus parking regulations may result in ticketing and/or towing of your vehicle.
  • Vehicles found in violation will be ticketed and or towed.
Do you offer Pay and Display parking?

Yes.  Pay and Display parking is located behind the Burnlea residence. When you turn onto Burnlea Walk, turn right at the first stop sign.

How do I pay for parking in the Pay and Display Spaces?

Huron’s Pay and Display machine takes Visa, Visa Debit, Master Card and Cash. The machine does not give change and you will need to know your license plate.

Can I pay with Honk in the Pay and Display Spaces?

Yes!  When you pay with the Honk parking app using your license plate as identification, we use that info to let Western Parking Enforcement know you’ve paid — we share your plate number, what zone you’re in, and how long you’ll be there in real-time. This is the reason Honk asks you to confirm your license plate and location so many times during the checkout experience.

Parking Ticket FAQ

I received a parking ticket, what do I do now?

All parking tickets are managed by Western Parking Enforcement. It is your responsibility to pay for or appeal the ticket, by following the instructions on the back.

I have a parking permit, why did I receive a parking ticket?

Please be aware that a parking permit does not guarantee you a parking space. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. If you are unable to find parking in the designated lot, please wait or use an available pay and display lot at your own expense.

There is no guarantee of availability, particularly during peak demand periods. We highly recommend planning your day and arriving ahead of scheduled classes and meetings to ensure you can find a parking spot.

Any fines received for parking illegally will be your responsibility. Please follow the instructions on the back of the ticket for information on how to pay for or appeal the ticket.

If you were parked in a Huron lot (not the Springett Lot) and have a valid parking pass but still obtained a ticket, please reach out to the Huron Parking Office at parking@huron.uwo.ca and include a copy of the parking ticket to be reviewed by our parking staff.

Be sure to update the Parking Office within 24 business hours of any changes to your vehicle information before arriving on campus.

Gated Lot Permits

Reserved Parking

Huron offers annual, term, and monthly permits for students to park in the gated lot on the south side of campus off of Burnlea Walk.

Huron Parking Permits will be sold to enrolled Huron Students, Huron Faculty & Huron Staff only.

Requests for parking will be reviewed against Huron’s enrolled student list from the Huron Registrar’s Office.  In the event that parking is restricted further, those on the list will be given preference.

Parking permits will be fully reserved only after application and payment are made.

There is a limited number of parking passes available for students who identify as living in residence. This is due to the availability and access to all on campus amenities and the public transit system. Passes are available on a first come first serve basis. Once residence passes have sold out, students living in the Huron residences will be placed on a waitlist. If a pass becomes available, students will be contacted by mid September.

Vehicle license plate recognition will be used for validating permit holders in the lot.  It is critical that permit holders register their vehicles (max. 2) with Huron.  Failure to register your vehicle license plates will result in tickets and fines.

Complimentary parking is offered on weekends beginning Friday at 7 p.m. and ending on Monday morning at 3 a.m.
