Huron University is celebrating the recognition of alumna Emily Addison (’16) and Vivek Prabhu (’13), who have been named to The Peak’s 2025 Emerging Leaders List, a national program that recognizes Canada’s most accomplished and promising young leaders making an impact across business, government, academia, non-profit organizations, and entrepreneurship.

Building an International Career

Addison currently serves as Country Director, Canada for the United Kingdom Department for Business and Trade, where she leads a team of 30 professionals advancing the U.K.’s economic development priorities across Canada. In the role, she helps major Canadian companies expand into the United Kingdom while supporting British businesses entering the Canadian market. She works directly with the U.K.’s High Commissioner to Canada and has led high-profile government visits and initiatives involving senior political and business leaders.

Since graduating from Huron’s Political Science program in 2016, Addison has built an impressive international career. Her path has included earning a master’s degree in the United Kingdom, interning at the United Nations in New York, working on a provincial election campaign, serving in the Office of the Premier of Ontario, and spending the past five years with the U.K. Government in Canada.

Her inclusion on the Emerging Leaders List reflects not only her professional accomplishments but also her commitment to public service, international collaboration, and supporting the next generation of leaders.

For Addison, the foundation for that success was built at Huron.

“Huron’s small classes gave me the space to test ideas, be wrong, learn fast, and build confidence,” she says. “The tight‑knit community also opened doors to leadership roles in student government at Huron and Western, both of which gave me lifelong friends, many of whom I regularly cross paths with across Canadian business and politics.”

As a student, Addison was actively involved in campus leadership, serving as President of the Huron University College Student Council. She credits professors including Dr. Neil Bradford, Dr. Jim Crimmins, Dr. Lindsay Scorgie, and Dr. Paul Nesbitt-Larking with helping her develop the analytical, communication, and leadership skills that would later serve her in government and international affairs.

Today, Addison remains deeply connected to Huron through mentorship and service on the Alumni Board, helping current students navigate their own leadership journeys.

Leading with Purpose and Integrity

Huron also celebrates Vivek Prabhu (’13), who was named to The Peak’s 2025 Emerging Leaders List alongside Addison. A History graduate, Prabhu is now the Canadian Practice Lead for Public Affairs at Burson, a global communications consultancy, where he advises organizations across Canada and internationally on protecting and enhancing their reputations. He began his career in government communications, including roles in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada and with the Government of British Columbia.

A devoted member of the Huron community, Prabhu’s leadership journey began on campus and has continued to evolve in the years since. As a student, he served as President of the Huron University College Student Council and as Head Soph during Orientation Week, experiences that helped shape his commitment to mentorship, community-building, and service. He has since remained closely connected to Huron, serving on the Board of Governors and as President of the Huron Alumni Association, and was recognized in 2025 with the Beverley Paterson Wood Award for Volunteer Service to Huron.

Reflecting on his time at Huron, Prabhu credits those early leadership experiences with shaping his approach and ongoing connection to the community:

“Huron is purposeful, rigorous, and fun. Through experiences like Orientation Week and student government, I learned what it means to be a leader with heart; someone who creates opportunities for others and stays committed to community. That’s something I’ve carried with me throughout my career and in my continued connection to Huron.”

Celebrating Huron Leaders

Huron also celebrates Kayla Duncan, another Emerging Leaders List honouree with Huron roots. Duncan studied Political Science at Huron for two years before continuing her education at the Ivey Business School. Her recognition alongside Addison and Vivek highlights the diverse paths Huron students take as they go on to make meaningful contributions in their communities, industries, and beyond.

As Addison’s career continues to grow on the international stage, her story serves as a powerful example of how a Huron education can prepare graduates to lead with confidence, curiosity, and impact worldwide.
