OSAP

Fall/Winter OSAP

The 2024-25 OSAP application is now available online, click here. Students who intend on using OSAP funds to pay their fees for this upcoming September must complete the online application by June 30th and have all supporting documentation submitted by July 15th. Students can still apply after this date, however processing times can range from 4-6 weeks.

Hints when applying under the full-time program:

  • You will be asked for your OAN (Ontario Access Number) and Password when logging in
  • If you have forgotten either of these, please click here for assistance.
  • If you are still unable to retrieve your OAN and/or password, please come into Financial Aid office at Huron (or any post-secondary institution that administers OSAP) with your SIN card and valid government-issued photo ID.  We can retrieve your OAN and/or issue a temporary password.
  • Select Western University Canada as your institution and then select a Huron program from the existing list. Note: This part is very important as this can cause delays in processing.

How to Update your Application

If there is a change in your courses, income, status or otherwise from your original application, please email financial.aid@huron.uwo.ca immediately indicating the change you would like to be made on your OSAP application. Please note that the email must come from your UWO email address.

Summer OSAP

All Huron students requesting Full-Time OSAP for the Summer Session (May to August) must complete a “Huron-Full Time Undergraduate Summer Supplemental OSAP Application.” Completed applications, and any required supporting documentation, are to be submitted via email to Dusan Stepancev, Coordinator, Student Aid & Awards, Huron University College, at dusan.stepancev@huron.uwo.ca

Please refer to the Eligibility Chart on the Application to determine whether you should be requesting Full-Time OSAP or Part-Time OSAP for the Summer Session. For example: students enrolling in one distance studies half course, one distance studies full course or one evening half course ONLY must complete the online OSAP application for Part Time Students. Students with a Permanent Disability enrolling in one full distance studies course have the option to apply to Part Time or Full Time OSAP.

The deadline to apply and submit all supporting documentation for both full-time and part-time OSAP for the Summer Session is 6 weeks (42 days) prior to the end of your study period. Please note: if you are only taking a 3 week intersession course; the deadline to apply and submit all supporting documentation would be 3 weeks prior to the course start date. Students wishing to automatically defer their tuition payment to OSAP need to have their application and all supporting documents submitted by April 1st, 2024.

How to Apply

If you did not receive Full-Time OSAP funding during the Fall/Winter 2023-2024 academic year, you must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 weeks during the Summer Session. You must also complete a 2023-2024 online Full-Time OSAP Application in addition to completing the Summer Supplemental Paper Form.  Check back early Spring for a link to apply.

Bursaries / Needs-Based Awards

Bursaries and needs-based awards are forms of financial aid provided to students based on their financial need (rather than academic merit). These funds help cover education-related expenses, including tuition and living expenses. Unlike loans, bursaries and needs-based awards do not need to be repaid.

Huron University has now launched a new online financial assistance application for the 2024-25 academic year. Students can apply and be considered for all bursaries/needs-based awards and/or work study. Please click the button below to visit your Huron Connect portal to apply. The application can be found on the top left-hand side of the page.

Application deadline: October 18th.

Work Study

Work-study is a needs-based program that provides students with part-time jobs to help pay for their education. These are on-campus jobs that allow students to gain work experience while earning money to cover tuition, books, and living expenses. Work-study is awarded students who demonstrate financial need.

FAQ

I have already paid my tuition fee installment. What happens with my OSAP funding?

If your tuition fee installment is paid in full, then your OSAP installment will be sent directly to your bank account instead of Huron.

OSAP isn’t enough to cover all my yearly expenses. Are there any other resources I could use?

Huron University will be launching a new financial assistance application where students can apply and be considered for work study and/or all bursaries/needs-based awards. This financial assistance program is meant to supplement what OSAP gives you. Please visit the bursaries/needs-based awards or work study sections for more information.

Why hasn’t my enrollment been confirmed for OSAP?

Confirmation of enrollment will begin at the end of August, approximately ten days prior to your study period start date. If your OSAP installment pays for your tuition and your OSAP application is fully processed, you do not need to worry about the tuition deadline as we know OSAP will be paying your balance.

I am receiving OSAP, will my tuition fees be deferred until OSAP comes in?

Your tuition fees will be deferred if you have submitted your OSAP application and all of your OSAP supporting documentation on time. Please note: only your OSAP installment amount will be deferred. For example: If your OSAP installment is $3,000, but your tuition installment is $4,000, then only $3,000 is deferred. You are responsible for paying the difference of $1,000 by the due date. If your OSAP installment is greater than your tuition installment, then your tuition will be fully deferred.

I can’t find my program on the OSAP application. What do I do?

After selecting Western University as the institution, search “Huron” in the program field. You will be able to find all Huron programs there.

I need to make a change on my OSAP application. What do I do?

From your UWO email address, send an email with your requested change to financial.aid@huron.uwo.ca

I have submitted my OSAP application. How long does it take to get processed?

It can take between 4-6 weeks to have your OSAP application fully processed.

I want to know the status of my OSAP application. How can I check this?

You can check the status of your OSAP application by visiting the OSAP website and checking your current application. You can see if there are still outstanding documents that need to be submitted, your OSAP assessment, your OSAP installment breakdown, the scheduled OSAP release date, and more.

I have submitted OSAP documentation, but there have been no updates on my OSAP application. Why is that?

It can take 4-6 weeks to have your OSAP documents processed. If the documents could not be approved, you will be contacted via the OSAP message center with an explanation as to why and what you need to submit in order to satisfy the OSAP document requirement(s).

Do I need to apply for OSAP each year?

You need to apply for OSAP each fall/winter and summer study periods if you want OSAP funding consideration.

When do I begin repaying my student loans?

You go into repayment status six months after the last time you were a full-time student.

I am in full-time studies but do not want to apply for OSAP this year. What do I need to do?

It is recommended that you submit a Continuation of Interest Free Status (CIFS) application online through the OSAP website so you do not accrue interest while you are in your studies.
