International Student from Modern School Barakhamba Road - New Delhi

Urvi Maheshwari
The amazing community established here is very rare – from people’s willingness to help you with absolutely anything through to your professors’ willingness to provide one-on-one mentorship and research opportunities.

Meet Urvi Maheshwari, a student from Delhi who has just completed her first year at Huron University in London, Ontario. Before coming to Huron, Urvi attended Modern School where she took part in a number of extracurricular activities, including working for the school’s paper as Chief Editor and helping improve school culture as a Peer Mentor.

“I had the resources to get a superior education and as far as the curriculum I was receiving back home, I wanted something more,” Urvi explains. “I didn’t want to memorize facts, I wanted to ask why and learn the important factors behind events, so maybe one day I can influence them for the betterment of the people they affect.”

Urvi wanted to pursue this type of enriching education in Canada, but she was intimidated by the prospect of attending a school with thousands of students where her voice would be lost within classes of hundreds of others.

Luckily, Urvi met one of Huron’s international recruiters, Moustafa Ezz, who showed her how Huron’s strategically-small environment develops Leaders with Heart who question, challenge and change the various structures that shape the way our world works. This prestigious yet inclusive Liberal Arts university ensures that school isn’t something you “just have to get through.” Instead, Huron’s esteemed faculty and supportive staff create continuously-evolving learning experiences that engage students in discussion, while encouraging them to develop and express their own opinions.

“I have not questioned by decision to come to Huron once because I absolutely love it,” Urvi shares. “The amazing community established here is very rare – from people’s willingness to help you with absolutely anything through to your professors’ willingness to provide one-on-one mentorship and research opportunities, I finally feel engaged in learning in ways that make satisfy my curiosity and empower me to learn things that actually matter.”

Urvi attributes a lot of Huron’s most admirable traits with the school’s mission to Develop Leaders with Heart. She encourages other international students to recognize the truly unique opportunities they will have when they live and learn in a school that, as Urvi describes it, “Cultivates a culture of empathy and compassion where you’ll establish genuine relationships and learn how to respect others’ talents, while also enhancing your own,” she explains. “So, you improve in ways that will actually benefit humanity, while also positioning yourself to achieve significant personal and professional success.”
