Adjunct Professor, Islamic Studies

Julie Lowe, PhD
I aim to develop students’ ability to engage with ideas in depth. What assumptions are present in a text? What are the strengths and weaknesses of an author’s argument? I encourage my students to be active, analytical learners.

I completed my PhD at the University of Toronto with a focus on Islamic law.  I also hold a Master of Laws (LLM, concentration in Islamic law) and a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS).  At Huron, my teaching centres on Islamic studies.  The small class sizes at Huron allow me to engage directly with each student in my courses and to enhance their learning experience.  My research interests span Islamic studies, law, and information science, and I am particularly interested in topics at the intersection of these disciplines.
