The Schulich Foundation Invests in Huron University’s Leadership with Heart Mission Through Bold $5M Donation
Huron University is pleased to share news of a transformational gift from The Schulich Foundation, a leader in higher education philanthropy. The donation advances Huron’s mission to develop Leaders with Heart and will inspire and equip students to have a greater impact in Canada’s future, increasing productivity and prosperity.
London, ON – Inspired by Huron University’s mission and values and recognizing the urgency to graduate students who understand where Canada’s prosperity comes from and how to reignite it, The Schulich Foundation is making a substantial investment to create the Nation Builder Program at Huron.
The Nation Builder Program is a flagship enrichment program at Huron for high achieving, aspiring leaders that are curious about what drives Canada’s economy, interested in sharpening their analytical skills, and motivated to graduate as pragmatic thinkers that can build and deliver.
In addition to their academic programming, participants will attend workshops and lectures from global scholars and business leaders, have the opportunity for international learning experiences, and complete corporate internships. Industry launch partners include Fairfax Financial Holdings, Forum Asset Management, Mantle, CG Capital Markets, Trajekt Sports, Empire Company Ltd and KPMG. The Nation Builder Program will start in the 2025-26 academic year.
“It is a momentous time for Huron University. This generous gift from the Schulich Foundation endorses our mission to educate pragmatic, thoughtful future leaders, and in doing so, aligns with our vision to help build a stronger country,” says Huron University President, Dr. Barry Craig. “This program is going to broaden views and open doors by offering exceptional learning and networking opportunities, thereby enriching students’ understanding of economic, political and civic life.”
“We are proud to partner with Huron University, a leading liberal arts institution,” said Judy Schulich, President of The Schulich Foundation. “We see a tremendous opportunity with the Nation Builder Program to help develop analytical, pragmatic and driven leaders who will make great contributions to improve our national productivity and prosperity.”
“On behalf of our Huron community and all of the students who will benefit from this innovative program, I extend a sincere thank you to The Schulich Foundation,” notes Dr. Barry Craig. “It is philanthropic leaders like The Schulich Foundation who amplify the impact of our students and help revive the spirit of Canadian ingenuity at a crucial point in our history.”

About The Schulich Foundation:
The Schulich Foundation is one of Canada's largest foundations, having donated in excess of $500 million. Seymour Schulich, a self-made billionaire whose career has spanned stock brokerage, investment counseling, mining and the oil industry, established and funds the foundation. Mr. Schulich holds Canada's highest civilian award, the Order of Canada, and is among Canada's greatest philanthropists. Having benefited greatly from a scholarship that enabled him to do his MBA, Mr. Schulich has built a well-earned reputation as a champion for education and access to education in Canada. As a result, The Schulich Foundation has endowed university faculties of business, engineering, medicine, law, education, music, chemistry, nursing and dentistry; as well as libraries, dormitories, courtyards, medical health centres, lecture and music halls. Through these benefactions and the Schulich Leaders and Schulich Builders Scholarship Programs, over 6,000 scholarships are awarded annually.
