LONDON, ON – Huron University is pleased to announce the appointment of Victor Thomas as Executive Director of the Fairfax Centre for Free Enterprise, a signature co-curricular program dedicated to ethical leadership, entrepreneurship, and values-driven free enterprise.

The Fairfax Centre for Free Enterprise was made possible through a transformational $10 million gift from Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited. The Centre is the first of its kind in Canada and reflects Huron’s long-standing commitment to educating Leaders with Heart who are prepared to make a positive difference in the world.

Experienced Leadership for a Values-Driven Centre

In his role as Executive Director, Thomas will provide strategic leadership for the Fairfax Centre for Free Enterprise, guiding its vision, partnerships, and programming. He will work closely with Huron University, as well as global partners to advance the Centre’s mission of developing entrepreneurial leaders grounded in integrity, innovation, and social responsibility.

Victor Thomas brings two decades of leadership experience across non-profit, post-secondary, and business sectors. He currently serves as President and CEO of the Canada-India Business Council, a role he will continue alongside his appointment as Executive Director. He was previously a VP at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He has held various other leadership roles, nationally and internationally, including with CARE Canada, Banff Forum, Innovation Place, SaskEnergy, and the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.

Victor is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Administration in Leadership from the University of Regina. He is also a Chartered Director from McMaster University. Thomas is widely recognized for his contributions to public service and leadership in Canada and abroad. His honours include the Order of the Red Cross, the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and an Honorary Degree from Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Creating Opportunities for Students

The Fairfax Centre for Free Enterprise is designed to give students hands-on opportunities to learn, build, and lead. Through the Centre, students will have access to:

  • Opportunities for student interaction with seasoned business leaders 
  • Workshops, speaker series, and innovation-focused events 
  • Competitions and initiatives that encourage creative problem-solving and ethical decision-making 

These opportunities are intended to prepare students not only for entrepreneurial careers, but for leadership roles across business, public service, and the non-profit sector.

Strengthening Community Connections 

Huron is also pleased to welcome Faith Jayakaran as Manager of the Fairfax Centre for Free Enterprise. In this role, Jayakaran will focus on building meaningful opportunities for students while strengthening connections between the Centre, the Huron community, alumni, and external partners. Her work will support events, workshops, and collaborative initiatives that bring the Centre’s mission to life.

As the Centre begins its work, Huron looks forward to the impact it will have on students, the campus community, and the wider world.
