Jayden Wright, McCall MacBain Scholar

Jayden Wright named McCall MacBain Scholar; Iqra Devlani receives International Finalist Award.

London, ON – Honours Political Science student Jayden Wright (BA’26) is one of only 20 Canadians selected for the sixth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at McGill University.

Established with a historic $200 million gift in 2019, the McCall MacBain Scholarships are Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies. More than 700 Canadian students applied for the opportunity, and the top 150 participated in the first round of interviews across the country and online. From there, 91 finalists were invited to attend final interviews in Montreal in March, 2026.

The scholarship covers tuition, living stipends, relocation expenses, as well as mentorship, coaching, and leadership program activities.

“Although I am forever grateful for the financial security provided by the scholarship, McCall MacBain means so much more to my leadership journey holistically,” said Jayden. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have a community of like-minded, driven, compassionate, and honest leaders to be my support system for my master’s program.”

Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

At Huron, Jayden serves as president of the Huron University Student Council (HUCSC), leading an organization of over 100 student staff across five portfolios. In this role, she secured a seat for student representation in long-term academic planning. In previous years, Jayden served as vice-president, student affairs, and equity associate for the council. She has also worked as a residence don, served as a student senator, and was a delegate to the Ontario University Student Alliance General Assembly.

Jayden’s interest in applying to master’s programs is grounded in the desire to understand state violence and how liberal democracies manage legitimacy crises. She recently co-authored a knowledge synthesis of Black Canadian activism.

As a McCall MacBain Scholar, Jayden will pursue a Master of Arts in Political Science at McGill.

“Huron was pivotal in equipping me with the leadership experience to become a McCall MacBain Scholar at McGill. The scholarship’s emphasis on humility, community engagement, academic excellence and critical thinking aligned closely with Huron’s values and the way students are encouraged to grow, think deeply and stay curious. My like-minded peers continually pushed me to become a better leader, changemaker and person.”

“These scholarships go beyond financial support. They’re about investing in the leadership potential of individuals who dare to pursue unconventional paths and care deeply, about improving the lives of others,” said Dr. Marcy McCall MacBain, Chair of the McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill.

“Every McCall MacBain Scholar has participated in six different interviews to earn this opportunity,” said Natasha Sawh, CEO of the McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill. “In September, they will join a diverse, interdisciplinary network of graduate students committed to bringing people together and creating meaningful change.”

This year’s results highlight the strength of Huron students pursuing graduate studies and leadership opportunities across Canada.

Jayden is one of two Huron students honoured this year.

Huron Psychology student Iqra Devlani (BA’26), from Kenya, also earned an International McCall MacBain Finalist Award valued at $40,000 over two years.

“Meeting the McCall MacBain finalists in Montreal and spending a couple of days with them was an experience I will always cherish,” said Iqra. “I would not have been able to make it to the final interviews if it weren’t for Huron and the experiences and support I had here to be a Leader with Heart. And I will continue to hold this mission in everything I do.”

Together, Jayden and Iqra’s achievements reflect Huron’s commitment to developing students who lead with character, curiosity, and purpose.
