Huron is proud to partner with Indspire, a national Indigenous registered charity, by giving an award of $100,000 ($20,000 over five years) to indigenous students attending the university. This new scholarship will support Indspire’s mission of investing in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities. The launch of this collaboration is in keeping with Huron’s commitment to providing Canada’s most elite yet accessible education by removing barriers to access for young people who have traditionally been under represented.
“Huron is proud to support the mission of Indspire,” Huron President, Dr. Barry Craig said. “Through the ‘Building Brighter Futures’ program, we can help more Indigenous students realize their immense potential, which has historically been overlooked and underdeveloped.”
Similar to Huron’s mission of challenging students to be Leaders with Heart, Indspire’s vision is to enrich Canada by inspiring achievement and, through their commitment to reciprocity and inclusiveness, empowering Indigenous young people to recognize and pursue the value of education. Huron’s $100,000 contribution ($20,000 over five years) aims to support Indspire’s organizational goal of increasing graduation rates by investing in First Nations, Inuit and Métis students.
“As Canadians, we share a responsibility to give equal opportunities to indigenous students across our great country,” Mike DeGagné, President & CEO at Indspire said. “This award will positively affect students’ lives by enabling them to focus on university, rather than worrying about how they will afford to get into and stay there. This is tremendously important in terms of keeping them in school – and allowing them to make the most of their educational experiences.”
This award is to be distributed to Indigenous students who are attending Huron University with demonstrated financial need for contribution to education costs. It is open to First Nations, Inuit and Métis people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families, communities and Canada.
