Toronto, ON – When Hailey Ebedes joined Huron last fall, she didn’t think that she would be working for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority by the summertime. Now going into her second year studying Management and Organizational Studies (MOS) with a concentration in Marketing & Sustainability, Hailey understands first-hand just how much Huron’s small, supportive campus community can change a student’s entire trajectory.
THE PROFESSORS THAT NURTURE STUDENTS’ GROWTH

At Huron, you’re known by name and supported to succeed through intentionally small class sizes that bring the promise of a Huron education to life. The promise of a Huron education is nothing without the intentionally small classes. This creates an environment where students and professors can engage and learn from each other in ways that prompt new paths for growth.
In Hailey’s case, her class with Business and MOS Assistant Professor Shahin Pardhan set her on hers.
After encouraging her to build a LinkedIn profile to invest in her ambitions, Hailey felt emboldened to apply to an opportunity posted on LinkedIn by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. The competitive hiring process highlighted the strong interpersonal skills and character that she’d been building during her first year. Now she serves as a Student Community Ambassador as one of the youngest members on the team.
Her role involves more than bringing Toronto Pearson into the community through events, activations and STEM workshops; she also gets to connect with residents, sharing the airport’s story and trajectory, and capturing the impact of their community engagement work.

PAVING THE WAY FORWARD

One of the most rewarding parts of her position is how it has informed her view of her own professional involvement. She admits that she was surprised at how many people it takes to run a large organization and the different roles that support its functioning. The interactions within and across different work ecosystems foster harmony, much like Huron’s departments working together to support students in achieving their goals.
From career-readiness supports and experiential programming to mentorship from professors and connections with Huron’s alumni network, students have access to the guidance, experiences and relationships that help them prepare for the future.
Hailey says: “Huron has been such an amazing place to learn and grow, and I truly don’t think I’d be in the position I’m in today without it.”
She encourages students to follow their curiosity, pursue new opportunities and build meaningful connections. At whichever point in their professional journey, students stand to gain more when they are willing to “put themselves out there.”
