Huron is proud to announce Dr. Genevieve Amaral as the new Dean for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).

A respected scholar and academic leader, Dr. Amaral brings extensive experience advancing liberal arts education through interdisciplinary teaching, student-centred learning, and collaborative leadership. Throughout her career, she has championed initiatives that connect students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities, foster faculty collaboration, and prepare graduates to become thoughtful, engaged leaders.

Huron President Dr. Barry Craig observes, ” Dr. Amaral brings to her role an exceptional combination of academic excellence, thoughtful leadership, and a deep belief in the transformative power of the liberal arts. Her commitment to interdisciplinary education and student success will fortify Huron’s ability to nurture students’ potential to Lead with Heart, equipping graduates for meaningful leadership in an increasingly complex world.”

Dr. Dan Smith, the outgoing Acting Dean of FASS and current Vice President Academic and Dean of the Faculty of Theology, complements this sentiment, saying: “Dr. Amaral’s experience and expertise make her an outstanding choice to lead the Faculty of Arts and Social Science into its next chapter. Her thoughtful and collaborative approach to academic leadership will be an incredible asset to Huron.”

Prior to Huron, Dr. Amaral served as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Sheridan College and was previously an Associate Director of the Intellectual Heritage Program at Temple University in Philadelphia. As she reflects on what drew her to Huron, she notes that “liberal arts degrees are truly ‘future-proof,’ [in that] they help students to both understand the moment in which they live and also to meet that moment creatively, courageously, and with heart. Few institutions take up this mission as intentionally as Huron does, or with as much vision.”

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Amaral to Huron.
