LONDON, ON – This week, Huron University was proud to host its Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS) Convocation Celebration, marking the occasion with the university’s largest graduating class to date.
Welcoming 750 guests to campus, Huron radiated with smiles, laughter, and joy as graduates and their loved ones commemorated the graduates’ accomplishments and looked towards the future.
As part of the celebration, and a highlight for many audience members, Huron presented an Honorary Doctorate Degree (HDD) to global sustainability leader, Anita Marangoly George.
“One of the most important gifts that my parents gave to my siblings and I is the gift of education. Not the typical sort of excelling in exams type of education, but more really being educated to be able to see and hear and feel other people” said Ms. George at Huron’s Convocation Celebration.
She spoke about Huron’s mission in challenging students to be Leaders with Heart, saying “this is something that I think is so essential in terms of any form of success, but most importantly in terms of being really proud of who you are and what you do.”
Her work in addressing sustainability and climate challenges, how they intersect with the business realm, and bringing forward solutions for positive change are making an impact in countless ways around the world.
For Huron President Dr. Barry Craig, the process behind choosing an HDD recipient is “always with an eye to putting them in front of our community – role models.” He continues, saying “we want to be both challenged by the people we honor, but we also want to be encouraged in our own pursuit of social change by seeing others who have led the way and led the way with a good heart. Anita George is one such person.”
As students from Huron’s Class of 2024 move forward into their next chapters, they will surely find inspiration in Ms. George’s experiences and examples of business excellence as fellow Leaders with Heart.
