Nation Builder
Program

The Nation Builder Program is a flagship enrichment program at Huron for high achieving, aspiring leaders that are curious about what drives Canada’s economy, interested in sharpening their analytical skills, and motivated to graduate as pragmatic thinkers that can build and deliver. This progressive academic offering is designed to challenge, inspire and further nurture Leaders with Heart in a bold new way.

Thank You to our Founding Sponsor, The Schulich Foundation

At Huron we equip students to become agents of positive change in our communities and businesses. Huron graduates are disproportionately likely to become leaders in society. That is not accidental – we equip our students to lead. We recruit students who dream big, and who have personal goals and aspirations, but who also want to make an impact on society.

A liberal arts education encourages students to think critically about complex issues, understand diverse perspectives, and solve problems innovatively. These skills are highly valued in the job market, as employers seek individuals who can communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and approach challenges with a well-rounded perspective.

At Huron this is only part of our objective. We not only aspire to educate students and to prepare them for successful lives and careers, but we also wish to build well rounded citizens who care for one another and have an appreciation for business savviness, politics, economics, the arts, how Canada really works, and what is required to raise the country’s standard of living.

The Nation Builder Program is a prestigious enrichment program, open to all Huron students to apply to.  Participants will complete focused courses, take part in workshops and lectures from visiting experts and renowned business leaders, as well as complete a related internship opportunity.

Components of the Nation Builder Program

The program framework is currently in development, but will include the following:

Coursework

New courses and academic programming that align with the mission of the Nation Builder Program will be developed to further the understanding of economic, political, and civic life in Canada, and the connection between economic growth and social progress. Development of these courses will follow established university consultation and approval procedures.

Access to Experts

Participants will benefit from a meaningful series of seminars and workshops hosted by global scholars and business leaders who will share their expertise and experiences from academia and the public and private sectors. This is not only insightful, it also offers Nation Builder Program students key networking opportunities.

Internship Experience

Participants will complete a related internship in the private sector at an approved host organization or an international agency/organization. Industry launch partners include Fairfax Financial Holdings, Forum Asset Management, Canaccord Genuity, Mantle, Trajekt Sports, Empire Company Ltd, KPMG and Birchcliff Energy.

Participants will also take part in an annual symposium for team building, sharpening communication and debating skills, and informative lectures.

Students who complete all components of the Program will receive a credential/certificate. Details of the program are still in development with a goal to launch the program in the 2025-2026 academic year.

Who is eligible to participate?

Entrance into the program is by-application only. Please note, the application process is in development. In addition to new course offerings, there will be a Foundations course students must complete before they can apply to become part of the Nation Builder Program.
