The Nation Builder Program is a flagship enrichment program at Huron for high potential, aspiring leaders who are curious about what drives Canada’s prosperity, interested in sharpening their analytical skills, and motivated to graduate as innovative thinkers and doers who can build and deliver in any field they choose.

At Huron, we pride ourselves on our commitment to developing Leaders with Heart . We believe leadership is learned. Great leaders are developed through opportunities that challenge them, expand their thinking, and connect them with people and ideas that can change the world.
That’s the promise of the Nation Builder Program.
This flagship enrichment program is designed for high-potential student leaders from across Huron’s disciplines who are passionate about shaping Canada’s future—economically, politically, culturally, and socially. It is designed to sharpen analytical and leadership skills, apply an increasingly valued liberal arts lens in an A.I. tech-enabled world, build enduring networks, and prepare students to deliver innovative, real-world solutions.
Thanks to the generosity of our Founding Sponsor, The Schulich Foundation, Nation Builder students will have access to focused academic coursework, career development support, distinguished guest speakers, and paid internships with leading Canadian organizations.
Through this experience, students won’t just be prepared to graduate—they’ll be prepared to build and lead Canada’s next chapter.
At Huron we equip students to become agents of positive change in our communities and businesses. We recruit students who dream big, and who have personal goals and aspirations, but who also want to make an impact on society. We not only aspire to educate students and to prepare them for successful lives and careers, but we also wish to build well rounded citizens who care for one another and have an appreciation for business savviness, politics, economics, the arts, how Canada really works, and what is required to raise the country’s standard of living.
This is why the Nation Builder Program was established.
The exciting new flagship enrichment program will hone leadership skills, expand professional networks and resources, and prepare students to build and deliver innovative solutions in their chosen field.
Thank You to our Founding Sponsor, The Schulich Foundation.

Launching in September of 2025, the program framework will include:

Students will complete a series of newly developed courses aligned with the mission of the Nation Builder Program. These academic courses will explore how prosperity is created and sustained in Canada, and how innovation, policy, business, ethics and culture intersect to shape our nation’s success. The first of these courses launches in Winter 2026.

Nation Builder students will prepare for and experience at least one paid internship with one of our Nation Builder partner organizations. These opportunities are reserved exclusively for Nation Builder students. Our Nation Builder partners are among the most successful companies from a cross-section of industries in Canada. Student internship positions with Nation Builder partners will represent a wide range of positions across departments and sectors. Career Coaches support students through the transformative learning that takes place before, during and following a student internship.
Industry launch partners include Fairfax Financial Holdings, Forum Asset Management, Canaccord Genuity, Mantle, Trajekt Sports, Empire Company Ltd, KPMG, Birchcliff Energy, dexterra GROUP, and EllisDon.

Participants will attend seminars, speaker events, and workshops with distinguished Canadian business and industry leaders, and our Nation Builder partners. These engagements offer powerful learning, practical insight, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities to connect with a growing network of professionals and leaders with demonstrated success across sectors. Huron students will develop meaningful professional relationships and graduate from the Nation Builder program with membership in and connection to an exclusive professional network.

Students will participate in an annual Symposium and “Spark” speaker series featuring well-known and accomplished leaders.
Students will be encouraged and supported to pursue Travel Study or International Exchange opportunities that will enrich their cultural understanding, worldview, professional networks and leadership skills in a global context.
Those who successfully complete all components of the program will receive a Huron Nation Builder Certificate as a micro credential in addition to their undergraduate degree, signifying their readiness to lead in Canada and beyond.
Entrance into the program is by-application only, offered to Huron students from all programs who have successfully completed their 1st year and are going into 2nd year. Applications are currently closed for the 2025 cohort.
In addition, students must demonstrate:
Be more than a graduate. Be a Nation Builder.
