Fall Theology Faculty Lecture with The Rev. Dr. Stephen McClatchie

Join us virtually on Monday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. for Huron’s Annual Theology Fall Faculty Lecture. This year we will hear from The Rev. Dr. Stephen McClatchie on “Spilled Theology: John Henry Newman, Music, and Revelation”.

Synopsis: The importance of music and musical aesthetics in the writings of John Henry Newman has long been overshadowed by other aspects of his intellectual and spiritual significance. But music is the controlling and determinative element of Newman’s theological aesthetic and at the very heart of his theology. Although, whether as a metaphor or a means of Revelation, it ultimately falls short, nevertheless for Newman music is the closest in this life that human beings can come to the transcendent Truth of the Beatific Vision.
