Engaging the Past Film Screening
During the 2021 Fall Term, eight history students crafted short films on topics of their choice. Their films were the main project in their coursework for History 4810F: History and Film: Theory and Practice at Huron University.
With just four months to make a film, the students faced a daunting assignment. It required learning how to research, write, shoot, edit and produce their videos. They had no budget to work with. They used phone cameras and free video editing software. They interviewed experts. They hit the archives. They travelled to key locations. They took on the software and technical skills the task demanded. It all had to be done with one wave of the pandemic receding and another wave building on the horizon. Each student succeeded, and each film offers a unique view into our past.
