PETER KEDWELL ’69 – 2021 Beverley Paterson Wood Alumni Award of Distinction

A graduate of Huron University College and the Althouse College Faculty of Education at Western University, Peter’s career in education spanned 38 years, 35 of which he spent at Trinity College School until his retirement in 2010. Most of his career was spent teaching French; latterly he completed graduate work at Queen’s University in career counselling, university planning and guidance where he finished his career. He coached basketball and track and field over many years but devoted most of his co-curricular time in theatre directing and producing over 25 plays. He served as a residential housemaster over 12 years. He devoted his time to numerous school committees and continues to serve in a volunteer capacity with the Philanthropy and Alumni Office. He is a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in town, the parish church of the TCS, where he has served on various committees as chair and member: property, events, finance, forward planning and capital campaign. He is a former warden and serves as a eucharistic assistant. He also serves as a volunteer on the boards of the St. Mark’s Heritage Foundation, and the Corporation of Huron University College and formerly on the board of directors of the Architectural Conservancy Ontario, Port Hope branch.

He lives in Port Hope and is the proud father of Emily, a nurse-practitioner in Toronto. In retirement he enjoys, reading, travelling, gardening, cooking, biking, walking and acting.

2010 – honoured by Trinity College School with the Toronto Alumni Branch medal in recognition of longstanding service to the School and the community

2012 – honoured by the Government of Canada through the office of His Excellency The Rt. Honourable David Johnston, Governor-General with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of contributions in education and volunteerism to Canada
