SUMMARY:2022 China Day: Writing In-Between: Cross-Cultural Stories by Chinese Canadian Writers
DESCRIPTION:The Chinese Program at Huron University College cordially invites you to join the 2022 China Day event. This online event features two award-winning Chinese Canadian writers, Zeng Xiaowen and Zhang Ling. Xiaowen will share her experience of writing across cultures and ethnicities. Ling will focus on her most recent novel A Single Swallow that unveils the U.S. Navy’s aid to China during World War II. The two writers bridge East and West through cross-cultural stories and provide unique perspectives to Chinese and Canadian literature.\nThe event will be held in English. Author talks will be followed by a Q & A with the writers.\nTime: 11:30 am -1:30 pm, Wednesday March 9, 2022\nREGISTER NOW\nSpeakers \nZeng Xiaowen (曾晓文) is a Canadian Chinese author, a playwright, and a translator. She was born and raised in Heilongjiang province, China. She received an M.A. in World Literature from Nankai University. She studied and worked in the USA for 9 years and received a M.S. from Syracuse University. She settled in Toronto in 2003 and, until recently, worked as a Sr. IT director in Toronto. She previously served as chair of the Chinese Pen Society of Canada. She published her first literature work in Chinese in 1991. To date, she has published four novels and 3 collections of novellas and short stories, and has won several prestigious Chinese literature awards.\nBorn and raised in China, Zhang Ling (张翎)came to Canada in 1986 and started, in mid 1990s, to write and publish fictional works in Chinese while working as a clinical audiologist. Since then she has published nine novels and eleven collections of novellas and short stories, and won multiple literary awards. Her novella Aftershock （余震）was adapted into China’s first IMAX movie (唐山大地震). A Single Swallow （劳燕）is her nineth and most recent novel.\nREGISTER NOW\n
